Did you know? Our school originated as a charity school in Wonersh in 1683 through a donation of £4 a year from Henry Channell.

The land was donated by Earl Onslow for a school to be built on Norley Common, our current site. The building was completed in October 1842 and opened in 1843 with 60 children.

The school was further enlarged to provide 298 places in 1884. 

During the second world war, evacuees from London and Brighton came to live in the village and joined our school.

The artist Tony Hart was a regular visitor in the 1970s and children from the school appeared in his books.

We explored the history of our school in a special history fortnight. We discovered that our school once had a farm and children learnt to look after animals, weave, spin and sew. We looked at our school log books to find out what happened in days gone by. Past pupils visit the school and the children ask them questions.

We are grateful to Michael Harding, from the Shamley Green History Society, who has talked to the children about the history of our school;  and to people from the local villages who came and taught the children to sew, spin, weave and knit. We also had a visit from a mobile farm and loved meeting all the animals. We visited the Rural Life Centre at Farnham to find out more about life in the 19th Century when our school was built, and about life in the two world wars.
