Pupil Premium

Pupil premium is funding to improve education outcomes for disadvantaged pupils in schools in England. Evidence shows that disadvantaged children generally face additional challenges in reaching their potential at school and often do not perform as well as other pupils.

The school receives funding for:

  • Pupils who are currently eligible for free school meals
  • Pupils who have been eligible for free school meals in the past 6 years
  • Pupils who have been adopted from care or who have left care
  • Pupils who are looked after by the local authority

The Pupil Premium Overview shows stakeholders how we support disadvantaged pupils at WSG and is based on the Education Endowment Foundation's tiered approach to using the pupil premium.

The Pupil Premium Strategy document below explains in detail what this funding is spent on in our school and how it improves the outcomes for disadvantaged children.

The strategy also includes the Recovery Premium Grant which is part of the government’s package of funding to support pupils whose education has been impacted by coronavirus (COVID-19).  It is focused on pupil premium eligible pupils because of the additional impact of the pandemic on these students.
