Curriculum

A learning adventure with kindness

Adventures are the best way to learn, this is ours.

Our curriculum is told through 'Our Curriculum Stories' which map out the learning journeys our children experience as they travel through the school.  Please visit the school to read these stories.  Behind these stories are detailed progression maps of the knowledge and skills that can be viewed on each subject page of the website.  Every unit of work has a detailed 'unit plan' which outlines the knowledge and skills that will be taught.

We aim to teach children how to grow into positive, responsible citizens, who can work and co-operate with others whilst developing useful knowledge and skills so that they achieve their true potential in a changing world. We aim to deliver a broad and balanced, creative curriculum which reflects our Christian school ethos and our understanding of how children learn best; being active, curious, thinking creatively, having hands-on experiences, valuing dialogue, collaborating and co-operating with one another.

We value the way in which all children are unique, and our curriculum promotes respect for the views of each individual child, as well as for people of all cultures and religions.

We value the spiritual and moral development of each child, as well as their intellectual and physical growth. Our curriculum is underpinned by the Christian ethos of our school.

We value the importance of each person in our community and organise our curriculum so that we promote co-operation and understanding between all members of our community. We respect each child in our school and treat them with fairness and honesty. We aim to enable each member of our community to be successful, and we provide equal opportunities for all the children in our school to engender self-confidence, and healthiness in mind, body and spirit.

Children learn that they are global citizens with responsibilities; they learn about diversity, sustainable development and equity.

We value our environment, and we aim, through our curriculum and especially our forest schools learning to teach respect for the natural world, and how we should care for it for future generations, as well as our own. Thinking about the UN Sustainable Development Goals is interwoven in our cross-curricular learning. Children are taught about current affairs and topics that are really relevant to them and engage them in their learning.

As much as possible we give the children opportunities to base their learning in real hands-on experiences and give them real-life problem-solving experiences.
